52 Weeks of No TV

I gave up TV for one year in 2012.  Instead of TV, I made some THING every week.  In hindsight, it was a fecund year. (oh yeah, I used the word fecund)  It was the basis for many projects including my full production of Plasticland:  A Better Place.  It spawned unlikely artistic collaborations, built creative confidence and I got to smash a TV with a golden sledgehammer.  I haven't combed through this blog in awhile but I wanted to peruse it for inspiration.

Week 28: Things to do in the dead air between Christmas and New Year's

  • watch someone's else's mental breakdown and take note
  • read to pigeons
  • catch a cold
  • obsess over a fantasy
  • mull about 2013
  • get turned down for a 2 month space residency (but now realize that the next steps of your solo show are much clearer)
  • worry about memorizing text
  • put off memorizing text
  • beat myself up for not memorizing text
  • accept paying acting job for January 2013
  • spend Christmas in CT
  • celebrate best friend's birthday
  • feel interesteing
  • view Les Miserables:The Movie
  • hate Les Miserables: The Movie
  • hate that Anne Hathaway will be getting her oscar this year for her role in Les Miserables:  The Movie (mark my angry words)
  • make no resolutions about 2013 but stir in the idea of balance
  • enjoy that the idea of balance comes directly from my experiences with 52 weeks of No TV
  • congratulate myself on the success of last year's resolution "Drink More Water"
  • miss my dead mother - especially on New Year's - She and my dad always got dressed to the nines and went out for the night.  For some reason, I remember them going to a place called "The Fontainebleau" though I'm sure this is my child's memory squashing together memories.  She always wore perfume on those nights and it floated out the door after her and clung to me.  It was called Charlie.  She let me wear it for recitals and when I dressed up to the nines.  She always dressed us up to the nines.  We dressed up for everything. It's why I still like to dress up now.
  • realize this is the first New Year's without Dick Clark
  • realize even if I was going to be doing New Year's I wouldn't be watching TV! - All these american customs that center around the ol' boob toob
  • Pat yourself on the back for a job well done in 2012.  It was a long year and I lost a lot of people this year.  It was a slog.
  • A note from a friend: "And now they cannot promise me a week.  Ha!"
  • I'm going to post another image from my last photo shoot with Jeremiah Cumberbatch because it was a happy accident.

In Memory of 2012
