52 Weeks of No TV

I gave up TV for one year in 2012.  Instead of TV, I made some THING every week.  In hindsight, it was a fecund year. (oh yeah, I used the word fecund)  It was the basis for many projects including my full production of Plasticland:  A Better Place.  It spawned unlikely artistic collaborations, built creative confidence and I got to smash a TV with a golden sledgehammer.  I haven't combed through this blog in awhile but I wanted to peruse it for inspiration.

Day 3 0f No TV - Let the smashing begin

It has been 3 days without TV.  Sure, the first night I had a dream that I couldn't hold out and watched TV in darkness while crying.  The second day I had heart palpitations while thinking about a year without my beloved friend.  So, last night I turned my focus to the second part of my vow.

Every week of those 52 weeks I will make something.  Of course, for the first thing I have to do something big and statement-making.  I can't wuss out and make a video of my cat.  (which is coming) I was in denial that I was going to do this thing - but now that I have all the ingredients, it looks like this is happening.

This coming Friday morning, I will be smashing a TV with a sledgehammer.  So beautiful in it's simplicity.

I've never smashed a TV with a sledgehammer.  (please hold all gallagher jokes.  he's a homomphobic nazi with no sense of humor and if you make a gallagher joke you're just as bad as he is)

I kept thinking to myself:

"Self, smashing a TV with a sledgehammer?  It's been done."

Yes.  It has.  But not by me.

So, instead of watching TV last night, I trolled craigslist for a free TV which I found from a very nice lady on the upper east side.

I foraged craigslist for a sledgehammer which I bought for $20.

After a lovely taxi drive from East 77th street to East 11th street, all props were procured.  And all hands were volunteered.  This shit is happening.
